Often when we are out in the community, we are approached by people in need of support. We are not able to help everyone ourselves since our focus is on street-connected children and their families. But we like to signpost people to other services (where they exist) to try to get support, if we are not able to help them. However we didn’t always know which other serives were available locally to be able to refer to.
In 2016, a team of students from Manchester University came out to Uganda to carry out community mapping research for us in partnership with Ugandan volunteers.
They mapped out the organisations, schools and vocational centres in 3 areas; Bugembe, Mafubira and Masese, creating a booklet and online map with all the information.
This will help us refer people who we are not able to support to an organisation or educaitonal institution that might be able to help them. We hope that this information can be used to help others working in these areas, including local leaders, NGO staff and community members.
You can find each of the booklets and the online map of organisation below. Please contact us on info@salveinternational.org if you want to update or add to this information.
