Family Resettlement

We believe that children should live in a safe and loving family home. Once ready to leave our care, our team work closely with the children residing with us to identify the most suitable home for resettlement. For most, this is immediate family members, but we will always find the safest and most stable options, which could include extended family, community members or a foster family.

Home tracing is the process where we go with a child who has been living on the streets back to where they came from. It’s a chance to meet with relatives, neighbours and local leaders to understand why the child came to live on the streets, and to plan for the support needed to ensure they leave the streets for good.

Home tracing is a very crucial stage in our programme as it shows a deep level of trust between the child and the team that they allow us to take them back to where they came from. It also allows us to view the home circumstances ourselves and to see if the factors that led the child to the streets can be resolved or not.

Our aim is always to see the child resettled with their relatives. This might be a lengthy process, and may involve working with the child’s extended family. The process of building a relationship with their family members is different for every child. We assess this on an individual basis and make a tailored plan as a result, in partnership with local councillors and probation services.

Once resettled in a safe home, our team conducts regular check ups by phone and in person to make sure each child is thriving. Whilst every child receives follow ups for at least three years, these check ups can continue for as long as our team deem they are necessary.
