Addiction Support Services

Many of the children we support have dangerous drug addictions. They turn to drugs – which are often cheaper than food - as a way of coping with the trauma of living on the streets.

In 2017, after extensive research and planning, we opened our innovative Drug Rehabilitation centre, offering a safe place where children can overcome their addictions and start to rebuild their lives. It is the first of its kind to offer this specialist addiction support to street connected children in Uganda.

There is a real lack of knowledge and understanding about the severe, long-term effects of taking mafuta (aeroplane fuel) and other inhalants. Whilst under our programme, they receive detox support, individual and group counselling, educational classes, health care, good nutrition and peer-to-peer support and education. Once they are ready, we help them to re-build their relationship with their family before resettlement.
