What word are you choosing for 2024?
I came across an idea that, instead of opting for a new year’s resolution, it would be a good idea to choose a word as a theme for the year instead. The idea is that this word helps to guide what you want to achieve, or how you want to feel, or how you want to help others to feel.
Some ideas might be – flourish, peaceful, simplify, deliver, excitement, fun or action.
What word do you think you would go for?
For S.A.L.V.E. our word for 2024 will be “strengthen“.
We have, thanks to our incredible global family, achieved so much in the years we have been operating. You can read more about our achievements in our latest Annual Review, which is now available online. But sadly, 2023’s head counting research showed us that much more is still needed to be done.
So, underpinning all of our work this year, will be the idea that we need to strengthen what we have built, so that we can continue to be a lifeline to children when they need us the most.
This will include strengthening our team, strengthening our fundraising and strengthening our ability to react to the changing environment. Not to mention giving the children and families we support the chance to strengthen themselves and develop their resilience and coping strategies.
We would love to hear your word/s for 2024!
Please share them on our social media, or reply to this email so we can go on our word journey together.
Here’s to a strengthened 2024!
Leaping into 2024 with fitness and fun!
Want to get physically strong this year? Or fitter? Or challenge yourself in a new way? Or if your word for the year is “fun” – we can help with that too!
We have lots of different events and challenges that you can get involved in for 2024. See our events calendar online here.
In September we are planning a month of activities but we want your help in shaping what we do. Please take part in this 60 second poll to let us know what activities most appeal to you and what would motivate you to take part.
Education
The children in Uganda are currently on their school holidays, having their longest holiday break from December, over Christmas and into January.
Later this month we will have 140 excited learners returning to school as part of our Education Support programme. This initiative enables children who have been on the streets to fulfil their dreams of education by supporting them through primary, secondary or vocational education. They are kindly supported by individual sponsors or people who give to our Education Fund.
Do you think you could make a difference to a child? We currently have 16 children who want to return to school but we don’t have the funding to support.
Please get in touch if you think you could help. Remember, you can sponsor as a small group of friends or family, a workplace or a community group. The cost of sponsorship starts at £20 per month, which is 66p per day.
Please watch our video about the Power of Education and see why it’s so important to give children the chance of a brighter future through education.
