If you’re looking for a way to really get involved and make a difference to our work, then how about volunteering to work for us?

As a small charity, we are always looking for people who can offer their time and skills, helping us to help us grow and give more opportunities to children to leave the street.

Whether you want to volunteer on the ground in Uganda, or want to give up a few hours a week or month and work from home here in the UK or across the world, there are many ways that you can help us.

Why S.A.L.V.E.?

At S.A.L.V.E. we are passionate about helping street connected children find a way off the street and into education. We are a small team and so we rely upon the skills, time and support of volunteers to help us to do this.

Volunteering with S.A.L.V.E. gives you the opportunity to make a real difference. It could be thanks to you that we are able to give more children a brighter future.

Volunteering opportunities in the UK

  • Video editing, design and research volunteering: we have lots of photos, videos and written reports that we would love help with editing and creating designing from to use on our social media platforms and website. We also have different information we need researching. (This can be done from the office or from home).
  • Supporting S.A.L.V.E. at events: an extra pair of hands is always needed at our events such as the Peak District Challenge. These events are a great way to fundraise and raise more awareness of S.A.L.V.E and the work we do.
  • Fundraising and spreading the word: help us raise more much needed money to make sure that there is no street called home in Uganda by doing your own fundraising events! Whether this is having a party or a dinner party for S.A.L.V.E., taking on a running challenge or getting new players for our Lottery for Change. There are so many ways you could help fundraise – let us know if you need some ideas!
  • Champion the Inequality Question: every month we host an ‘Inequality Debate’ where children in Uganda take part in an online discussion with people from all over the world to discuss a question on inequality. If you’re free, we would love to have a volunteer in the office on the day of the Inequality Question to help out with our social media, and to write a blog after.
  • Make Christmas special: help us sell our Christmas cards, jewellery, bags and soft toys in the run up to Christmas. This can be done in workplaces, university, or anywhere else you can sell them. We will create a pack of products for you to sell, and any money you raise will go to ensuring the children in Jinja have an extra special Christmas!
  • Share your skills as a Trustee: we are always keen to expand our UK Board with Trustees who have experience in particular skills such as HR, governance and risk management.

Why I volunteer…

A friend had volunteered previously with S.A.L.V.E. and recommended them as a place that was encouraging, inspiring and valuing of individual skills. I now edit the blogs that are sent over from Uganda so they are ready for the website and for social media. I also help with the monthly Inequality Debate by collating and paraphrasing the responses for the Twitter feed. I love finding out about all the work in Uganda, how children and families’ lives are turned around with the support and education from S.A.L.V.E.”
